AMY AUSTEN
"The wine bar in the carpark" small plates, signature cocktails and wine on tap, a quirky little spot to fill a gap. Located just off of the buzzing Drury street where you can observe some of the cities most stylish residents. Fun and affordable, receiving the Bib Gourmand award.
MAMO
Contemporary European food served at a picturesque spot on the Howth seafront, Irish ingredients are the bedrock of the menu, including Boyne Valley cheeses, Winetavern Farm pork from Wicklow and plenty of seafood from the harbour just over the road. This produce is fashioned into fresh, flavoursome dishes that are carefully cooked and neatly presented.
PICKLE
The chefs aim is to marry Irish produce with Northern Indian techniques and flavours in what they sweetly call 'pickle country'. Featured on the Michelin guide.
Bastible
Modern cuisine with an open kitchen in which you will find a set menu using top-class Irish produce at the height of its season. Focusing on simplicity, allowing each main ingredient to shine next to a few bold pairings. Awarded 1 Michelin star.
Kaldero
Filipina cuisine served in a discrete basement on South William Street, with an ambient interior and buzz coming from the kitchen, dishes are meant for sharing, the true South-East Asian way, with punchy and bold flavours being key. Featured on the Michelin guide.
AMAI BY VIKTOR
Describing itself as 'Brazilian roots in Irish soil', this hidden away restaurant offers something different to the Dublin food scene. Set on the first floor of a former shoe shop, you ring the doorbell by the plain black door to enter. A drawing of a favela pays homage to where chef Viktor Silva grew up: the restaurants name Amai, is a tribute to the women who raised him. The tasting menu fuses Irish produce with South American flavours. Features on the Michelin guide.
D'OLIER STREET
The high ceilings and original plasterwork of this restored landmark building contribute to the appeal of the contemporary restaurant within the well travelled, Australian born chef constructs a surprise manpowered by top notch ingredients.
BANG
Bang takes classics that are already great and makes them better. A subterranean dining den of deep reds, low lighting and banquette booths. The food is firmly Iberian, with elements of Basque, Catalan, Valencian, Balearic and Portuguese.
Restaurants
COMET
A modern and mediterranean menu, this hidden gem is tucked away in a little alleyway behind Dawson street.
ANANDA
Located beside Dundrum shopping centre, a gem outside the city. It is a little bit far away if you are not local to the area but it is 100% worth it.
GLOVERS ALLEY
In the heart of Dublin City centre, looking onto Stephens green, located in one of Dublins few 5 star hotels, the Fitzwilliam. You will find the chic and glamorous Glovers alley, awarded 1 Michelin star.
FOREST AVENUE
Tucked away on a quaint street in D4, just moments away from the cities hustle and bustle, Forest Avenue lays. My friend and I spent one sunny afternoon savouring every bite that the lunch menu had to offer, by the glass front window at a bar seat, soaking in the natural light (and wine), with a minimal, modern bistro style interior, impeccable service from beautiful service staff. Each dish looked as good as it tasted, focusing on simplicity and contrasting flavours that boost one another's profiles, everything was light and fresh, how you would want a summer lunch to be. This is still one of my favourite meals in Dublin yet. Awarded 1 Michelin star. Take me back for the dinner menu?
ACHARA
Located on the Quays, a prime location. The atmosphere in this establishment definitely lives up to the meaning of the name, 'Dear Friend' As Gaelige, you will be greeted by the loveliest and most beautiful front of house staff, who go out of their way to personalise your visit and charm you. Serving yummy Thai food at a reasonable price with a western take on a South-East Asian style, you will find classics and twists here, not to mention their signature cocktail menu which includes my favourite cocktail in Dublin, a pandan espresso martini. If you want something a little more relaxed with a good buzz, this mid range, hipstery spot is a good choice (if you can get a table).
Bars
A hidden gem, located in the popular neighbourhood of Stoneybatter, next to the infamous Grano, this warm and cosy, intimate Italian wine bar seats few people, with charismatic Italian bar staff to match the selection of wines, which start at as little as €7 per glass.
A FIANCO
A hidden gem, located in the popular neighbourhood of Stoneybatter, next to the infamous Grano, this warm and cosy, intimate Italian wine bar seats few people, with charismatic Italian bar staff to match the selection of wines, which start at as little as €7 per glass.
FRANKS
On Camden street amidst the cities chaos, you can find a quiet retreat, an ambient, sensual wine bar in what used to be a butchers, the charm of the old butcher shop remains in the stores front and signage. Inside a dimly lit room with dark blue/navy painted walls, is 1 big counter top, communal table and a small row of seats looking out to the cities streets. This is a lovely date spot or place to read a book.
LOOSE CANNON
A recurring pattern emerges here, I do love a tiny, intimate wine bar where you would be lucky to stand, let alone get a seat. Loose Cannon is in fact the tinniest of them all and is another favourite of mine, whether that is on a lively summers day in bustling Drury street or on a wet, mid week, winters evening with not a sinner in sight. Popping into Loose cannon for a glass and cheeseboard and taking a bottle then to go is a ritual for all seasons. The selection is one of the best the city has to offer.
